Fuel mileage calculator

Calculate miles per gallon from two odometer readings and the gallons used, then see your fuel cost and cost per mile. Sign in to save the latest five fill-ups and reuse your last odometer reading. For accurate tank-to-tank MPG, mark partial fills and let the next full tank close the interval.

Distance is the ending reading minus the starting reading. MPG is distance divided by gallons used. For the most reliable per-tank result, use a consistent full-to-full method and include partial-fill gallons in the interval.

The math, plainly

How it works

  1. 01

Distance is the ending odometer reading minus the starting reading.

  2. 02

Fuel economy is distance divided by gallons used. For a reliable per-tank result, compare full tanks and include every partial fill between them.

  3. 03

When you log a partial fill, its gallons carry forward. The log calculates MPG when you record the next full tank, then shows the last five fill-up costs.

Try a real scenario

350 miles between fill-ups

InputsStarting odometer 42,180 mi, ending odometer 42,530 mi, 12.5 gallons, $45 paid

Result350 miles, 28.0 MPG, $3.60 per gallon, and about $0.13 per mile.
