Sod is the one landscape material with a deadline: it arrives alive and needs to be in the ground the same day. So the order has to be right the first time. Enter your lawn dimensions and this calculator returns the order area with a small waste allowance, whole rolls at the standard 10-square-foot size, a pallet count for farms that sell by the pallet, and the cost. Five percent waste covers a clean rectangle; curved beds and obstacles deserve ten.

How it works

Order area is lawn area plus a small waste allowance — sod is perishable, so it needs less buffer than lumber or stone.

Rolls are order area ÷ roll size, rounded up. The standard US roll is 2 × 5 ft, or 10 square feet.

Cost is rolls × price per roll; the pallet count is shown as a note because most sod farms sell — and price — by the pallet.
