Auto loan cost and payoff calculator

A car payment is only part of the purchase cost. Enter the vehicle price, taxes and fees, down payment, net trade-in equity, APR, and term to estimate the amount financed and scheduled payment. Then compare the modeled interest and payoff time if you add extra principal each month. The estimate uses monthly periods; your contract, daily interest, payment dates, and lender instructions determine the exact payoff.

The math, plainly

How it works

  1. 01

Add the vehicle price and the taxes and fees from your quote, then subtract your down payment and net trade-in equity. Negative equity increases the amount financed.

  2. 02

The scheduled payment uses a fixed-rate monthly amortization estimate. The comparison then models interest on the remaining balance each month and applies any extra payment to principal.

  3. 03

Vehicle cost adds the entered purchase price and fees to modeled loan interest. It does not include insurance, fuel, maintenance, or other ownership costs.

Compare an auto purchase

Inputs$32,000 vehicle, $2,500 taxes and fees, $4,000 down, 6.5% APR for 60 months, plus $100 monthly

Result$596.77 monthly as scheduled and $39,806.02 total vehicle cost. With $100 extra each month: 51 months, $38,907.50 total, and $898.52 less interest.
